Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2024-2025 Released

2024-10-20T19:04:00Z

Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2024-2025 is finally released! I see folks playing on Steam and PS5 already, but I just realized that I chose economy shipping from Play Asia, so my PS5 disc will probably be on a boat for a couple of weeks.

Stuff #

For now, there are folks streaming on Twitch, so I’ll watch some of them and see if I can avoid getting so excited that I try the VPN-foreign-currency method to buy it a second time. Also, there’s a wonderful community translation site for menus at Prospi Translation. Have a look if you’re playing too and I haven’t posted what you’re looking for.

OK, friends, have fun out there!

I hope this stuff is helping you play! Feel free to send in requests for information. Eventually I’d like to cover more modes like Star Player and Season mode. Someday, I might even try My Ballpark. Seriously, there are so many awesome single-player modes in Prospi this time around!

If you’re having trouble, the community over in the ProSpi Translation Discord is really helpful, and TheGreatMuta’s ProSpiTranslation guide is amazing!

Anyway, enjoy!

I’ve been working on more of the plumbing/web-dev side of things today. So far, I’ve been using whatever simple Markdown rendering gets text and images out there as fast as possible, without much regard to presentation. But so far, the site is really text-heavy. So I did a few things today to make things a little nicer:

Game page headings have been updated to something a little more attractive with a nicer breadcrumb and details line.
I started writing up a vocab section on some pages for the common Japanese words that are helpful to know. It was initially just a bulleted list of text, but I replaced it on the Day Off page with something a little nicer. I’ll go back through the other pages with vocab and fix 'em up.
I also developed a little component to display practice activity cards more nicely than just an image on the page. That’s in the Choosing Player Activities page.

More style and functionality updates from the past couple of days, but there's some new content as well.

Better Functionality #

I integrated some nice typographic styles (you’re lookin’ at 'em now!) to make everything more readable and generally nicer to look at. Previously headings and text were spaced in fairly crazy ways, and now things are a little more sensible.
Tables of contents have been added to all other pages, and they’re a little nicer to look at as well due to some fancy styles.
Headings now have permalink symbols that you can copy to link someone directly to a section of a page. Feel free to use those instead of just linking to the top of a page if that helps.
New semantic styles that I can use to compose some slightly nicer views of information. Even though the typography stuff improved the basic elements like paragraphs and lists, they’re still a little boring and could present the information better. Now I’ve got some nice tools to do that without having to decend into CSS semi-hell.
The footer now has a link to the Discord. You’re probably in there already if you’re seeing this post, but whatev’.
The game pages list page now has a functional breadcrumb, tag pills, and some other nice styling changes.
Page headings have an improved breadcrumb with game series and mode now.
I pulled a bunch of stadium images out of the game for headers, so maybe some pages won’t just use that same school courtyard image. We’ll see if I get around to fixing up the old pages. You can see one from the Hiroshima Carp stadium on this post above. (Is it still the Mazda Zoom Zoom Stadium? Such a silly name…)

Updated Pages #

Every content page for a game has been updated with a table of contents and improved typography.
Special Player Skills
Practice Activity Cards
During a Game
Post Game
Helpful Videos
Day Off Activity
Bookstore Activity
Convenience Store Activity
Schedule Improvement

Maybe there’s some other stuff that I’ve forgotten in the last couple of days.

Hope y’all are knocking the cover off the ball! (I watched The Natural the other day. Such a silly movie…)

Site Updates - November 23, 2024

Lots of little event and activity pages have been created based on a bunch of screenshots I took from my playthrough. I'm up to September 2026 in my HK playthrough. I won the prefectural tournament in the summer and went to Koshien, but lost in the first game to a team that wasn't really better than my team, after beating a much better team in the prefectural finals. Oh well, c'est la vie!

Better Functionality #

I started adding badges to pages in the Prospi 2024 HK index page to show new and updated pages. I’ll clear 'em all when I write a new blog post with updates. It won’t be super-regular, so if you’re not checking in regularly, you’ll miss something. Not the end of the world, though.
I updated the styles for pages with dialogs or translations to show the original Japanese in Noto Sans JP, which I think is the font the game uses. It’s also in a dark slate background and larger font reminiscent of the way the game renders text in dialogs so you can read it ok. (By the way, if you install and configure a nice Japanese dictionary addon like “Yomitan” or something like that, you can see pronunciations, definitions, and kanji meanings in an overlay directly in the browser.)

New Pages #

Other Events
Progress Events
- School Fame Level Increase
- Scout Visit
Activities

Updated Pages #

Added 「名門」 characters to the top fame level description in Fame Levels. I’ll probably delete this page and just leave them in the Lists page.
Added mood icon images in Lists
Added Batting Trajectories descriptions and text in Lists
Added the Toolbox item to the Items page.

The Meiji Jingu tournament streaming is pretty cool. Go watch some proper Japanese high school and collect tournament games! The HS championship game and college division championship game are on Monday morning and mid-day JST (8 and 11 p.m. Sunday night for US EST).

More updates! I translated several more event pages and updated the scouting page as I just got back around to November in my HK playthrough and took some screenshots. I didn't really do any of the web dev stuff, though I do have a couple of things I want to do (clicking images to show a larger version, and showing the furigana over kanji in the Japanese text). I just didn't have the chance to do them in the past few days. Here's what we got:

New Pages #

Events
Miscellaneous Minor Events - A page to hold all the little events that don’t really merit their own page
Other Events
Progress Events
- Annual Team Focus Selection
- Seniors Retiring
Activities
Monthly Schedule
- Oct. 11: Draft Day

Updated Pages #

Playing Games - Added details about the three difficulty level presets
Nov.: Winter Scouting (Through February) - Added screenshots of what the interface looks like with some translations of the screens
Activity Card List - Added about 8 new cards or so, and pulled the official description of the activities from the game where I knew them
Lists and Collections - Added descriptions of the last couple of hitting types
Consumable Items - Added the toolbox item

I think I’m going to play the game a little more in the next few days than I have been. I still have a ton of event, activity, and various progression screenshots I’d like to get up on the site, but for all the content on the site now, I’ve only gotten to November 2026 in my playthrough!

Site Updates - December 4, 2024

2024-12-04T19:16:00Z

Some helpful (hopefully) updates in this one, but this is a slightly smaller update than others because I've actually been playing more.

I keep waiting for patches to fix some in-game stuff that I hate, namely that outfielders can just straight-up hose guys on the bases because outfield throws to 3rd and home are never offline, always perfectly to the base, which is ridiculous. I also really don’t like how bad the infield defense AI is. I had a catcher just post up at the plate instead of grabbing a bunt that was one step away, waiting for the pitcher to get to it. Just completely braindead AI… So I’ve been watching patch notes pretty closely, and I decided to post a couple of recent translations. I’ll try to get them up on the site pretty soon after they arrive.

New Pages #

Updated Pages #

Calendar Dates and Holidays - Added some new dates and links to Wikipedia articles, for those of you who are here for the culture
Special Skills - Added some new special skills for managers to train players on
Graduation Ceremony - Added information about the town location updates at graduation

Thinking about starting another mode sometime soon. I’m leaning toward star player, but maybe My Ballpark. I still want to play in games, so most likely one of those. OK, have fun out there!

Just a little update this time as I've been playing more and doing other stuff recently.

New Pages #

Updated Pages #

Tournament Lifecycle - Added information arount the overall tournament sequence and what happens when you win a tournament
And misc typos and misspellings…

I started Star Player mode last night with one of my Hakkyuu no Kiseki graduates, a 430-star LF that mashes taters. Fun so far! I’ll probably write up some of it to help y’all out getting started there.

I started the Star Player mode a couple of days ago and have a couple of pages ready to go.

New Pages #

There’s still a bunch of stuff that I don’t know about Star Player mode, so by all means, check my info and correct me if there’s something wrong or let me know more details about how something works if something needs to be added. I’ll be adding more as I play more and find out more. Have fun out there!

Star Player mode continues apace! I'm still learning a lot about it, but I have some good updates here.

Updates #

I started pulling out the city images from the date/travel cards and updated some of the existing SP pages with new images.

I probably need to bump up the difficulty. I’m hitting .500 with 20 HR in April. Fun to hit bombs, though!
